Speaking on Consolidated Essential Performance Health Check using PowerShell - SQLSaturday (Sacramento)
On July 23rd 9.45 AM, I will be presenting “Consolidated Essential Performance Health Check using PowerShell” @ at SQLSaturday, Sacramento, If you are in the area I hope to see you!!
Location: Patrick Hays Learning Center 2700 Gateway Oaks Drive, Suite 2600 Sacramento, CA 95833
Session Detail: A performance health check is the key in responding quickly to production issues. It can cut the initial evaluation phase significantly, whether someone has requested a health check or you run one due to an alert. These essential checks can be the first major checkpoint for a DBA, they can look quickly on consolidated email stats first to decide if any further action is required to fix an issue or is it feasible to jump into in-depth troubleshooting. This will cut down on time and effort while responding to Production issues.
Prakash will share some key observations about SQL Server performance which can be the key to quick resolution of issues. Rest of the email shows different set of stats regarding CPU/Disk IO/Disk Space/Memory/Network/Blocking and database performance which could lead to the slowness observed in the application. This consolidated email can be shared with technical stakeholders to give a snapshot of DBA efforts and it adds transparency to the Health check process. Prakash will walk you through a centralized process using PowerShell where the key information collected, organized and sent via HTML formatted email, provides consolidated view of SQL server along with key observations which DBA should verify and share with IT stakeholders for increasing transparency and improved efficiency.
This session is good for DBAs and technical folks who without having DBA knowledge would like to take a quick look at the SQL Server’s performance matrix.
You’ll learn:
✱ An essential matrix to evaluate SQL server performance quickly which can rule out or confirm if any further action is required
✱ Consolidated and standardized view of essential performance stats of SQL Server is helpful for DBA to quickly analyze a SQL server and other technical stake holders like Server/Storage team/Client Support/ Application Team
✱ About a customizable PowerShell script which can be run from central SQL Server or desktop which has Sysadmin access to SQL server and supports SQL 2008 to 2016 SQL servers"
